This is the way I remember my Father "George Samuel Tomlinson ,As far as my memory goe,s ,my first memory was when I was very young about 4 years old ,it was during the Second world war ,I saw my father in his naval uniform ,he was going back to his ship ,I remember that all the blinds were drawn ,so that the lights would not shine out,this was called the black out,the next real memory was VE day when all the celebrations for the end of the War took place ,these were happy but hard times,growing up was fun to a point ,we never went hungry but our clothes were always second hand ,Dad would do what ever work was around ,he was a plasterer ,but he could turn his hand to anything,he had to ,to feed 4 children it was a hard Job,Gran used to live with us,so in all there were 6,mouths to feed ,we all lived in a council flat ,a bit cramped but comfortable, we moved in 1946 or 47 not real sure of the date but we moved into a brand new council house ,wow things must have looked Rosy at that time ,when Dad Was in the Navy he did first aid and this came in very handy ,our house was the local first aid post ,patching up cuts and bruises,this was the very good side of him,he was a disciplintarian,
being in the Navy and due to his past ,which we knew nothing about at that time ,any way growing up with him was very tough ,we could not do what the other kids could do ,it has taken many years to understand him ,but when Mum died I got to know him better ,when I emigrated to Australia and saw what was happening to the troops in Vietnam,i completely understood his plight and the way he brought us up it was for our own protection,but when you are young we all don't understand and rebel
